Vol. II, No. 28 - February 16, 2012

You guys have waited forever and a year for this pageāand with its advent, be assured that forever and a year is at an end. It's a classified ad kiosk, and it won't cost you a dime to post news of your equipment sale, your help- or situations-wanted notice, your costume clearance or whatever you need everybody to know about (the only exception is auditions, which go on the page we dreamily call 'What They're Doing'). There are only two laws: Your copy can't go beyond 120 words, and you have to have the info to us (at marty@wordsarenotenough.info) by 5 p.m. Friday before publication day, which is Thursday. Other than that, knock yourself out, starting now.
Classes

Improv: The beginners class teaches basic improvisational theater skills: exercising your imagination and spontaneity, listening, adding colorful information, creating collaboratively, developing and trusting your comic instincts, taking risks onstage, and communicating your ideas effectively with words, tone, body language and facial 51 expression. This is a relaxed, playful improv lab for experimenting, for exploring the humor in imperfection and for laughing a lot. Intermediate and advanced classes cover types of improv performance pieces and the skills involved in performing them well, with more individual coaching. Instructor Jacquie Lowell has been teaching/directing improv in San Diego for 35 years. For more information, call 858-581-0050.
The Acting Class: Based upon Constantin Stanislavsky’s psycho-physical technique, The Acting Class develops each student’s ability to analyze text, identify playable actions and make strong artistic choices. Instruction focuses upon the teachings of Lee Strasberg, Stella Adler, Sanford Meisner and Uta Hagen through the use of monologues, scenes and exercises designed to strengthen the actor’s ability to audition, rehearse and create the role. The class is taught by Francis Gercke, a graduate of the Actors Studio Drama School and a resident artist at Cygnet Theatre. Classes are ongoing and cost $120/month. For more information, please call 760-975 7189.
From Good into Excellence: Lynx Theatre and Film announces a class designed for performing and creative artists to transition from a solid command of their craft to a higher level. Lynx founding artistic director Al Germani offers a workshop Sundays at 10:30 a.m., preceded by a body awareness class at 10 a.m., and a bimonthly live showcase of the classes' work.
